Jordan Sanford

October 22, 2020—Tom O’Connor announced today that Jordan Sanford will join Tom O’Connor Consulting Group (TOCG) as Director of Recruitment and Professional Development on November 4, 2020. In this newly created post, Sanford will play a central role in TOCG’s efforts to recruit leaders for arts and cultural marketing teams and adjacent divisions and will manage industry programs aimed at fostering shared learning among cultural marketing professionals. These programs include TOCG’s existing Performing Arts Marketers’ Roundtables, Emerging Arts Marketers’ Network, existing and future workshop offerings, and more to be announced. Vice President Rani Haywood will continue to focus on TOCG’s parallel consulting practice, offering industry-leading strategic marketing and revenue growth consulting to TOCG’s arts and culture clients, while also collaborating with Sanford on industry programs.

Sanford comes from his most recent position as Director of Artistic Advancement at The Art Effect, a youth-serving Non-Profit Arts & Media Education organization in New York’s Hudson Valley. Prior to The Art Effect, he served as Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admission and Coordinator of Baltimore City Diversity Initiatives at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). There he maintained a full schedule of nationwide recruitment, served as a marketing and communications liaison between departments, and pioneered the first Admission run post-secondary pathway program for students of color from the region. While there he also cultivated strategic partnerships with the Greater Baltimore Urban League, Maryland Art Education Association, and the National Art Education Association helping to lay the groundwork for the success of MICA's regionally focused diversity, inclusion, and equity initiatives. Jordan received his undergraduate degree in Fine Art from the Maryland Institute College of Art. He currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia.

In an email to clients, President Tom O’Connor shared: “Since first meeting Jordan in 2019, I knew him to be a kindred spirit in his desire to make impact through community building, and by aligning people with opportunities that will help them thrive. He has been an invaluable thought partner to me in the time since as we’ve collaborated on individual projects, and I was ecstatic when he agreed to formally join TOCG. He brings his own unique set of experiences and perspectives and will be an important voice as we continue to advance our clients’ missions through building and strengthening the teams that connect them to their audiences and communities.” He adds: “Like all of my favorite collaborators, Jordan pushes me to be and do better while also bringing great joy and creativity to the work—Rani and I could not be more thrilled to welcome him aboard.”
